Patty grew up primarily in Michigan, and has been surrounded by music all her life. The daughter of once a Methodist minister, she learned to not just to sing, but to sing out with full voice and conviction. Along the way she also had opportunities to learn how to create harmonies, something she enjoys immensely to this day.
While in high school she took several years of band, concentrating on the flute. She sang with a folk group that toured various parts of the country, performing for community organizations, churches and other spiritual guidance centers. With a piano in the house, and an older brother who played, there was always opportunity to enjoy music and create her own entertainment. Much of Patty’s vocal abilities one would have to attribute to her late mother, Lois, who sang in Sweet Adelines groups, and encouraged Patty’s participation.
Once in college, Patty obtained a minor in music, but settled on another full time vocation. As a Certified Vision Rehab Therapist, she leads classes and one-on-one instruction for the blind and visually impaired in a variety of living skills and technology. But Patty never gave up her music.
Once locating in Phoenix nearly 25 years ago, she found a folk music circuit to become active in and has played as a solo artist and with other performers. Patty also writes music, through which a theme of caring about others and hope for the future is evident. She is currently working on a CD to commemorate several family members, including music written by her late brother Ben, also a performer and songwriter, as well as a long awaited CD from the local trio, Mountain Rain, of whom she is a vital part.
